Hello guys
I'm Peter and live in Holland (europe)
I had an Dodge A100 shipped in for a couple of weeks ago.
It has a slant six and I'm thinking of to replace it for an V8.
I would like to have some information about the following things:
Witch engines fits the A100?
Do I need someother engine brackets? if I do,are they still for sale anywhere?
What kind of transmission fits the best?

Thxs.

peter, welcome to the site. Great to have some more international members. I'm not a "A" owner, but I can tell you I have seen 273, 318, 340, 383, 440 and even a 392 hemi in Dodge A100. Most use the 727 trans. I do know you need differant motor mount bracket, but don't know where to find them. Heres a member that might be able to help. Send him a email or PM.

To swap over to a V-8 you will need first to clarify which YEAR A-100 you bought. Question
If it is a 1965 to 1967 it will already have a Small Block V-8 727 automatic in it with an adapter plate to bolt it to the Slant/6. Very Happy
If it is NEWER - 1968 to 1970 - it will have a slant/6 exclusive 727 automatic in it. The entire trans front case would have to be switched over for a V-8 application.
None of the A-100 or A-108 727 automatics will bolt up to a Big Block Mopar. Sad
Engine mount brackets:
The brackets for/on a Small Bl;ock Mopar V-8 are sort of unique to the A-100 and A-108. They are tha same (Both Sides) as the RIGHT SIDE small block V-8 engine mount bracket used on the '64 - 65 - 66 Chrysler V-8 A-bodies (Dart, Valiant and Barracuda).
That same bracket is used on BOTH SIDES of the Small Block V-8 when installed in an A-100 or A-108.
The Frame Brackets for a V-8 A-100 and A-108 are different in that the RIGHT one is the same as the V-8 except for the hole for the mount, but the LEFT frame bracket isn't even close for a V-8 instalation. You will need at least an original A-100 or A-108 V-8 Left frame bracket to install it propperly.
Hope this helps. Wink

If you want to change over from a 6 to an 8, Brian Bowie has the necessary parts to do this. You can use a non-A100 transmission, but it's not recommended in a 90" WB model because the driveshaft will almost be non-existant because of the long tailshaft. If at all possible, get a V8 A100 transmission. If you have an A108, you can use a non-A100 transmission using a 70's B-van mount and bracket. I'm referring to an automatic of course.

Thank u Terry.

My van is a 65 A100.
It has a 'three on the tree' transmission.
So if I copy you right I just have to remove the adaptors or am I mission the point here? if I do its because of the language, sorry.

Peter,
Looks like (in addition to the Engine mount Brackets and Frame brackets) you'll need an A-100, A-Block 727 trans too.
Your A-100 will NOT have the adapter I spoke of previously.
I'm not sure what is available there for this transplant.
Hopefully you ARE also going to drop in an A-Block V-8?
I have one of these transmissions I can sell you in any form of AS-IS or all rebuilt ready to instal. This trans. is just fine but after sitting on the shelf for a while I recomend a rebuild just to start out fresh.
The 727 for use in an A-100 is SPECIAL, short tail shaft transmission with a stationary non sliding yoke. Your Standard Transmission drivesahft can be reworked to fit this too.
I need to know if you plan this to LOOK like a factory instalation? Rolling Eyes
If so, you will also need the dash shifter, cable and that section of the dash board where it mounts. I have personally done 3 of these conversions in the past 10 years and they all came out just fine.
Its a truck and pretty easy. Smile
To continue this exchange of info and Pictures of instalations, please contact me at:
'terry.bogusz@spiritair.com'
It is my work PC and I have the info in a special file.
Terry

This is a 1964-66 Barracuda/Valiant/Dart V8 right side (passenger) motor mount, as mentioned above. The one on the left of the photo has a piece welded to it to fit a 340. The second photo is the rubber biscuits that mount under the steel mount.
