it's called "hotrod black" primer,
i'll have to look at the can for the brand
not supposed to "chalk" out and turn white like rattle can black primer
no tiger stripes either (i hate that)
there is a chopped lead sled merc here in town that used it and i liked it
also makes for doing a section of details bodywork and re-spraying much better too to match as i go
-the chop was an accident lol
i PLANNED a 4 inch chop seeing the 8 inch and 10 inch chopped earlies recently on ebay and other sightings i thought half that would look better
but by the time i was educated on how to do one, it landed at 4.75 when i was done... |

Hey Leadfoot, Great looking job on it all !
Im gonna toss this at ya on the driveshaft, if ya got , or know somebody with a lathe, it mite be possible to cut the rear yoke right off the old chevy shaft and make a good step-up bushing to the big tube, if you have enuff to work with, it'd be pretty bullet proof and fairly easy to true up.
I'm really curious how the toyota works out for mpg,, its a great idea I think. _________________ Fear No Rust |

i have 3 chevy shafts and the toyota one i cut off to about a foot
so got lots of trial and error to play with, have a machine shop to check with tomorrow he may be able to turn a sleeve that will allow the chevy to slide into the toyota and true it along the way if long enough or two were made
tomorrw we get serious on the driveshaft, wiring, and pass door |

today
i went to my friendly machine shop -liefert automotive-
(world famous for builsing most of limerock and lebanon valley
racing engines) and who does all my machine work needs
figured it was worth a shot to ask if he has any drive shaft advice
-he looked at the chevy shaft, and looked at the toyota
and said, don't bother trying to mate the 2
find a GM driveshaft that is the same diameter as the toyota yoke
and we'll slice it off and tig weld it on
so off to the junkyard , guy behind the counter says
"HUH?? pile is out back"
so i went to take a look ... right on top of the pile
there is was...a 92 jeep cherokee driveshaft in great condition
and the perfect size universal to mate to the pinion
back to the machine shop with all my bits
i said hate to rush ya but i kinda need it asap.. he said he's do what he could... expecting not to hear from him till tomorrow at least
i changed all the front spring bushings, tie rod ends, took off the swaybar because someone previously WELDED the straps to the frame rails .. all gone
build the exhaust DONE (needs 2 clamps tomorrow),added some more primer to it today too, about an hour and a half after i dropped off the bits the phone rings...
and machine shop says "done" ...
sent pop over to pick it up for me while i continued on with this
rush van build
75 bucks later.. i got me a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet driveshaft !
tomorrow i wire and plumb, brake, shock it (i REALLY gotta finish that pass door!)
and should be STARTING IT sometime around midnite tomorrow i figure lol
thursday morning it'll be off to the glass shop for a windshield
and hopeing it's done EARLY enough to be at DMV transfering a set of plates to it before they close or it's friday morning
.... we'll see! .. still have images of still putting stuff together or painting more of the underside at the campground friday nite lol
(first pic ,chevy on top, chevelicarokee shaft
